Generic drugs look different than branded as their shape, color and size is different and that is because these are manufactured by different companies. However, the active ingredient is the same as the branded and they work exactly the same way. Even brand drugs with the same name can look different depending upon whether their country of origin is USA or Canada or any other country. Generic pills too, will look different if different companies make them.
Q: What are generic drugs?
Generic drugs are pharmaceutical products that are equivalent to brand-name drugs in terms of active ingredients, dosage, strength, route of administration, quality, and intended use. They are typically developed and marketed after the patent protection for the original brand-name drug has expired.
When a pharmaceutical company develops a new drug, they usually obtain a patent that grants them exclusive rights to produce and sell the drug for a certain period of time, typically around 20 years. During this time, the company can charge higher prices for the drug to recoup the costs of research, development, and marketing. Once the patent expires, other pharmaceutical companies can produce and sell generic versions of the drug.
Q: Are the generic drugs safe?
Yes, generic drugs are generally safe. They have the same active ingredients, strength, and Therapeutic effect as brand-name drugs, and regulatory agencies ensure their safety and quality.
